Dr Liz Allan lives and works on the lands of the Cammeraygal people of the Guringai tribe of the Eora nation. Her debut novel, IN BLOOM, was chosen as one of the Observer’s Best Debut Novels of 2026 and is shortlisted for the Ned Kelly Best Debut Crime Fiction Award 2026.
Liz has a PhD in Creative Writing and a Masters in Teaching from The University of Adelaide. She was the Elisabeth Maynard Writer in Residence at Frensham School, 2026 and currently teaches at Mercy Catholic College Chatswood.
Her short story, Solastalgia, won the Newcastle Short Story Award 2025 and her short story, Our Voices, Fierce won the Rachel Funari Prize for fiction in 2018. Her stories have been shortlisted and longlisted for numerous other awards.
